Shoes dumps Lioli

MASERU — In a shock move, Lioli coach Mosholi “Shoes” Mokhothu has dumped the Teyateyaneng giants for an inferior post with his former employers LCS.

Mokhuthu, 37, has joined Masheshena as assistant to head coach Mafa “Ribbo” Ramakau.

It is an unexpected move for the man who led Lioli to their first Premier League title in 24 years in 2009.

Mokhothu however refused to comment on the development yesterday, saying the move was yet to be finalised.

“In short, I don’t know what to say because this is still in the process and the two teams involved have not agreed on anything as yet,” he told the Lesotho Times.

Mokhuthu, a former LCS defender, said he wanted to end his stay at Lioli amicably.

“I want to make sure that everything is okay before I can say I am leaving them,” he said.

LCS spokesman Moseme Moseme, however, confirmed Mokhuthu’s move was a done deal.

“I can confirm that Ribbo will continue as LCS’s head coach for the new season,” Moseme said.

“He will be assisted by Mosholi who has joined our team as a full-time assistant coach.”

Moseme said Mokhuthu was expected to start his new job on August 3.

Before joining Lioli in 2008, Mokhuthu had worked as LCS’s assistant coach for two seasons.

Moseme said the LCS technical team would meet next week to finalise the squad for the forthcoming season.

“We have not yet signed anyone and we are still uncertain about the players we are going to release,” he said.

“The coaches will meet on August 3 to decide on new signings and the list of players we are going to release.”

Meanwhile, Lioli assistant coach Halemakale Mahlaha said he was unaware Mokhothu was moving to LCS.

“I’m not aware of that,” Mahlaha said. “I know he is someone we are still working with. Even the list of players that we submitted to the executive last week, we did it together.”
