THE Maseru Golf Club regular player, Tlotliso Khabo, emerged as the top performer at yesterday’s Maseru Golf Club (MGC) Corporate League tournament, held at the Maseru Golf Course.

Khabo led the 48-player field with an impressive 38 points, playing off a handicap of three. He was closely followed by Wayne Anken, who posted 37 points off a handicap of 13. Kelello Lerotholi rounded off the top three with 36 points, playing off a handicap of seven.

Speaking to the Lesotho Times, Khabo expressed delight at his victory, while acknowledging there is still room for improvement.

The tournament was played under rainy conditions, which proved challenging for many golfers. However, Khabo said the weather worked to his advantage.

“Most golfers prefer ideal conditions, so when it started raining, I saw it as an adventure. That helped me perform well,” Khabo said.

“Despite the win, there is always room for improvement. I strive to get better with every game I play.”

Local golfers are now looking ahead to the Prime Minister’s Education Charity Golf Day scheduled for 27 March. The event aims to raise funds for assistive devices for children living with disabilities in schools across the country.

While Khabo said he is yet to confirm his participation, he expressed strong support for the initiative.

“I am not yet sure if I will take part, but it is a great initiative that I fully support and would be happy to be part of,” he said.

As one of the club’s younger golfers, Khabo also welcomed the growing interest in the sport among the youth. Having developed his game at the club, he said it is encouraging to see more young people taking up golf.

The MGC Corporate League, which began in August last year, will run until July 2026. It consists of monthly tournaments sponsored by various corporate partners.

Yesterday’s tournament was sponsored by Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB). Each leg produces individual winners, while players also accumulate points for their respective teams. These points are tallied at the end of the season to determine the overall team champions.

SLB Executive Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, ’Matšepo Mohapi, thanked participants for making the event a success despite the wet conditions.

“We thank all participants who enjoyed the game despite the rain,” Mohapi said.

“It is always important to come together, play golf, and engage with one another while also discussing business.”

The next tournament is scheduled for 15 April and will be sponsored by LNIG Hollard.
