…reaffirms commitment during high-level executive visit
VODACOM Group has reaffirmed Lesotho’s strategic importance within its African operations following a high-level working visit by its Chief for International Markets, Mohamed Abdallah, this week.
Mr Abdallah was accompanied by senior Group executives, including Group Chief Officer for Regulatory and External Affairs Ayman Essam; Group Chief Financial Officer for International Business Haytham Ammar; and Group Chief Technology Officer Dejan Kastelic Dejan Kastelic.
The two-day visit focused on evaluating the operational and strategic positioning of Vodacom Lesotho, while reaffirming the Group’s long-term commitment to Lesotho’s digital transformation. Central to the engagements was an assessment of Vodacom Lesotho’s performance against operational targets and its alignment with the Group’s ambitious Strategy Vision 2030.
Vodacom Group’s Strategy Vision 2030 aims to accelerate growth by expanding its customer base by 50 million to reach 260 million users across Africa, while targeting revenues exceeding M200 billion by the end of the decade. The strategy seeks to transform Vodacom from a traditional telecommunications provider into a full-spectrum technology company, driven by rapid fintech expansion, the doubling of financial services users, and enhanced 4G and 5G connectivity.
During the visit, the executive team examined how Vodacom Lesotho is strengthening national digital infrastructure and contributing to the country’s digital economy. Discussions also explored opportunities to leverage the Group’s wider resources and expertise to sustain competitiveness in an increasingly dynamic market.
A key highlight was a strategic engagement with the government of Lesotho. Mr Abdallah and Mr Essam, accompanied by Vodacom Lesotho Chief Executive Officer Mohale Ralebitso, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi. The discussions centred on Lesotho’s digital transformation agenda and the vital role of private-sector partnerships in driving national development.
Throughout the engagements, the Vodacom leadership emphasised the Group’s enduring relationship with Lesotho.
“We are deeply committed to Lesotho and its people,” the executives said, reiterating Vodacom’s role as a long-standing partner in the country’s socio-economic development over the past 30 years.
According to Vodacom Lesotho, Mr Abdallah’s visit signalled a proactive approach by Vodacom Group to ensure its operating markets are not only commercially sustainable but also closely aligned with national development priorities.
“As Lesotho continues its journey toward digital modernisation, collaboration between government and key service providers such as Vodacom remains a critical pillar for success,” Vodacom said in a statement.
