Redskins won the 2014 Volleyball Championship held at Lehakoe Club last weekend, taking both the male and female editions of the tournament.
According to Lesotho Volleyball Association Public Relations Officer, Letsatsi Ntsibolane, the tournament was a fiercely contested affair but Redskins eventually proved their class to take the two titles.
Ntsibolane further said Green Spikes and Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) came second and third respectively in the male category, while Mahlaseli and LDF were runners-up and third in the female editions of the annual event bankrolled by Metropolitan Lesotho.
“The tournament was very competitive and lived up to expectations,” Ntsibolane said.
“It was the last round of the championship and we are very proud, as an association, that everything went well, not just last weekend but throughout the whole season.”
Ntsibolane was also happy the event took place within Lehakoe’s very modern facilities.
“It is always a challenge for our teams to use facilities of high standards like those at Lehakoe. Hopefully, this is the beginning of good things to come for us as an association, going forward.
“Our players need to get used to such modern facilities because it would make it easier for them when they go outside Lesotho to take part in international competitions.”
According to Ntsibolane, volleyball has the potential to develop into a mass sport with adequate financial support.
“There is so much potential for the sport to grow, which is why I would like to express our gratitude to Metropolitan Lesotho who have been sponsoring our volleyball for the past five years.
“The company has played a massive role in the development of the sport and we are very thankful for this support.
“We are confident that with Metropolitan Lesotho’s financial backing, volleyball will continue to grow from strength to strength in our country.”
