Premier League giants, Lioli, are set to celebrate their 80th anniversary with a gala-dinner at Maseru Sun Cabanas tomorrow.

Club spokesperson, Moeketsi Pitso, told the Lesotho Times this week that although the gala-dinner has become an annual event, this year’s edition would be “much bigger” due to the milestone.

“We raised over M300 000 in last year’s event and believe that  this one is going to be much bigger and better as it also forms part of our 80th anniversary celebrations,” Pitso said.

According to Pitso, events such as the gala-dinner have played an important role in the development of the club as the monies raised help keep Lioli, popularly known as Tse Nala, afloat.

“It’s a very important event that has helped raise monies, which cater for the club’s day-to-day needs and also pay the players’ salaries.”

Tse Nala have Alliance Insurance as their main sponsor, but Pitso is hoping tomorrow’s gala-dinner could help the club attract more sponsors.

“We have invited business leaders to our gala-dinner and are hoping they can be persuaded to invest in our club. It is only through sound sponsorship that we can take our club to another level,” said Pitso.

“Our main sponsor, Alliance Insurance, is encouraging other companies to come on board and I’m confident Friday’s gala-dinner is going to attract more businesses into investing in our club.

“Lioli is a very big club which continues to do well and having more sponsors can help us do better and be the force we would want to be, both locally and internationally.”

Pitso also revealed that Tse Nala have signed a deal with Umbro, who will be the club’s official kit sponsor for the next two years.

Lioli are among the country’s most successful clubs, having won the league title three times, with the most recent coming in 2012/13.
