Lichocha Shooting Riffles is looking at completing a double of the Basketball League and Play-off finals when they take on Lerotholi Polytechnic this coming weekend.
Riffles in March clinched the Lesotho Basketball League and are now involved in the Play-off finals, where they are tied on 1-1 with Polytechnic going into the final weekend of the series.
The female’s category of the play-off is also at 1-1 tie between NUL and Bokamoso North.
Lesotho Basketball Association Public Relations officer, Ntoko Marake told this publication that they are all looking forward to the final series between their four top teams in the male and female categories of their league.
“It’s been very interesting between these two teams in the play-offs as they are currently tied at 1-1 in the two categories,” Morake said.
“So far they have all lived-up to the expectation in the battle to be crowned champions of the play-offs.”
Morake said the Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) will make a decision during the week as to whether the games will start on Friday or Saturday leading to the final day.
“The committee will make a decision as to whether continue with the series from Friday or start them on Saturday, but it’s been a good tournament up to so far,” Morake said.
“It’s still tied in the two categories that have been played up to so far and there is still a long way to go because the winner will be crowned after all these teams have played in five sets.
“It means that the team that will be able to win its first three sets will be crowned winners of its category.
“If there is no winner after five sets, then the teams will be given another chance to play again,” he said.
Marake admitted that as a new committee that took charges if the basketball association in January, they have encountered some challenges.
These included lack of sponsorship, which created some difficulties in most tournaments.
“Usually, there are some hiccups associated with transition in sport, but so far we have survived and we are hopeful that with time, we will be able to get some funding,” Marake said.
