THIRTY-eight local artistes are billed to showcase their talent at the debut Lesotho Hip Hop Festival at Central Park in Maseru on 5 October 2019.
The event is meant to ensure that artists and music lovers alike get a feel of local Hip Hop music from both seasoned and upcoming artistes.
Lesotho hip hop promoter and festival manager Kapari Possa told the Weekender this week that they also want the event to contribute towards the genre locally through the implementation of various initiatives.
He said he also hoped that the event would increase exposure for local artistes to enhance the income they generate from music.
“This the first time that Lesotho is hosting and event that is strictly focused on hip hop and we hope to make it an annual event,” Possa.
He said they have split the line-up of performers into three categories namely, newcomers, female hip hop artistes and veterans. He said they would also have DJs entertaining revellers.
Possa said the event would start at 6pm on Satursay and end at 6am on Sunday. He said they would start with the DJs Mixdown where DJ Anca and Taks Beats are expected to showcase their skills playing strictly Lesotho hip hop as well as scratching and toasting.
He said they have also dedicated a full hour set to a freestyle session which will be followed an MC battle.
“We will also have a street dance session conducted by a local dance crew. This will be followed by a screening of Lesotho hip hop music videos,” he said.
Other performers expected at the festival are T-Mech, L-Tore, Skebz-D, Chocolate Soul, Protagon, C-Jo, Blaze Shatta Queen, Queen ‘Mo, Drigger and Nirex.
Possa said they also hope the festival would inspire new artistes while reviving some. He added that they also expect the quality of local productions to improve while at the same time hoping that the exposure that local artistes get would boost their careers.
