M1.50 bet turns into life-changing payout

…as Mohlobo wins over M100 000

Relebohile Mothokho

ONLINE casino bettor, Mosito Mohlobo, has turned a M1.50 stake into a life-changing payout after winning M103 587.92 on ThabaBet over the weekend.

ThabaBet — one of Lesotho’s fastest-growing online betting companies — officially handed over Mohlobo’s winnings this week during an event held at the company’s premises at Maseru Border Gate.

What began as a small bet in the casino games category eventually transformed into a massive six-figure payout.

Last Saturday started as an ordinary day for Mohlobo as he went about his daily routine. However, a modest wager on casino numbers soon left him shocked, emotional and proud after discovering he had struck it big.

“I do not know what to say. I am happy and proud,” Mohlobo said, visibly overwhelmed with emotion.

Despite his major win, Mohlobo cautioned against the perception that gambling is easy money, warning people not to use funds meant for essential household responsibilities.

“Gambling is not a fast track to money; it requires patience. However, that does not mean using money intended, for example, for children’s school fees,” he said.

Mohlobo said he plans to invest the winnings into a business venture, although he has not yet decided which type of business to pursue.

“I want to grow this money wisely and avoid any kind of financial loss,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of ThabaBet, Thabiso Seotsa echoed similar sentiments, stressing that gambling should not be viewed as employment or guaranteed income.

“We need to acknowledge that gambling is not employment. We cannot look at gambling as work because there are two possible outcomes — a loss or a win,” Seotsa said.

“People must understand that they can either win or lose. Do not gamble with the mentality that you will automatically win like Mositho.”

However, Seotsa acknowledged that betting has the potential to positively change people’s lives when approached responsibly.

He also explained how people can register on the platform, while emphasising that only individuals aged 18 and above are permitted to participate.

“Joining is easy. One can simply go onto a computer and search for ThabaBet. First-time users just select the ‘Register’ option and follow the prompts,” he said.

“Bets start from as little as M0.08. Depositing is slightly challenging because of our mobile money systems, but deposits start from as low as M1.00.”
