MASERU — A local author and poet is expected to launch a poetry book at Pioneer Mall’s Ster-Kinekor Cinema today.

Sheila Khala’s second book titled My Pen is a Socialite has 79 poems.

Khala said the book was published in March in Bloemfontein where she is studying drama and theatre at the University of the Free State.

“Although I have already launched the book in Bloemfontein, I strongly felt I had to do another launch here at home because this is where it all started,” she said.

She said today’s event will be a fusion of poetry, comedy and music.

Khala who last performed in the country two years ago told the Weekender that poetry fans should expect fireworks.

“People should expect to be blown away by a variety of performances,” she said.

South African poet and author, Hector Kunene is expected to grace the occasion.

Bloemfontein-based poet Jah Rose and comedian Itumeleng Molise will also be there.

They will be joined by local poets Mpho Sefali and ’Maphuthi and Zee from Poetry Farm.

“I have grown as a performer and I am now more professional and take poet as serious art and business.”

Khala added that she was motivated to write the book by her personal life experiences.

She said she took a year to compile the book after the release of her first book titled Formula in 2009.

Khala has since performed in Botswana and some parts of South Africa where she shared the stage with some big names.

“Because of this experience people now see me as a serious poet and author,” she said.

Khala said after her first book she started getting invitations from arts festivals.

She has also been invited as a motivational speaker.

“I would love to see either of the books included in the school curriculum in Lesotho. I am already working on getting the new book in libraries in South Africa. My aim is to see the books out there.”
