Matlama supporters petition executive

MASERU — A group of Matlama supporters have threatened to drag the team’s executive committee to court if it does not call an annual meeting within 14 days.

The 74 supporters have petitioned the committee to call a meeting to discuss the team’s financial and secretariat reports.

The supporters have given the executive committee two weeks to call the meeting or they will approach the courts of law for intervention.

They delivered the petition to the executive committee and the Lesotho Football Association yesterday.

Matlama vice-secretary Sefako Seema told the Lesotho Times yesterday he had seen the petition but referred the supporters to the club’s president.

“I have seen the petition but I could not accept it because I am currently not in the Matlama office. That is why I have referred them to the president and the secretary.

“As a matter of fact it is supposed to be handed over to the club’s president and the secretary,” Seema said yesterday.

The petition reads: “We, the supporters of Matlama FC, a list of which is attached to this petition to the team’s current executive committee, have felt the need to remind you that twelve months (12) have lapsed since you were elected to office, despite, and knowing that elections were held without a general meeting being held to report back to the owners of the team (supporters) on the team’s progress as you are bound to do.”

The supporters said they were within their rights to demand an annual meeting because the committee promised this in February last year.

“We found ourselves entering into the club’s elections with the promise that within two weeks following the said elections a general meeting would be held to report back on the affairs of the team.

“Sirs, we wish to remind you that to date no such meeting has been called nor any explanation forthcoming.”

The supporters said the failure by the executive committee to call an annual meeting had prompted them to deliver the petition.

“We have thus reached the conclusion to petition you call a general meeting of the club within fourteen days of receipt of this petition.

“We expect the following affairs of the club to be addressed at the general meeting — audited financial report and the secretariat’s report 2010 to date,” they added.

“We want the meeting to discuss the following: the M360 000 received in 2009 from the Vodacom Challenge Soccer Spectacular, M180 000 in 2010, Vodacom Premier League’s M100 000 in 2010, gate takings from 2010 to date as well as Alliance Insurance Merchandise revenue from 2010 to date.

“Sirs, we especially wish to assure you that failure to convene this annual meeting will result in us supporters approaching the courts of law (to) resolve this matter. Be assured that we will not waiver (sic) on this,” the supporters said.

“We shall be grateful if you would call this general meeting without further action being taken.”
