Qacha’s Nek
AN 88-year-old Qacha’s Nek grandmother recently foiled an attempt by a 39-year-old man to rape her on 7 February 2019.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli this week said Tsepang Mosaku of Ha-‘Maphahama was caught off-guard when the old lady fought back and screamed for help prompting him to flee from the scene.
However, the old lady reported Mr Mosaku to the police the following morning leading to his arrest.
And on 12 February 2019, the Qacha’s Nek Magistrates’ Court remanded Mr Mosaku in custody and ordered him back in court on the 26th of this month.
Supt Mopeli said Mr Mosaku allegedly broke into the old woman’s house on the 7th of this month and tried to rape her but she fought back and screamed for help.
“On February 7, the suspect broke into the old woman’s house and attempted to rape her but failed to do so as the woman fought him and screamed out for help,” Supt Mopeli said.
Mohale’s Hoek
Three Ramalefane siblings who found their 76-year-old father having sex with his 52-year-old girlfriend were recently remanded in custody by the Mohale’s Hoek Magistrate’s Court.
The trio will appear before the same court on 27 February 2019.
Supt Mopeli said Letlamoreng (40), who is also a teacher at Letlapeng Primary School, Harreng (27) and Montsi (24) who is a student at Limkokwing University found the couple having sext at their Phamong 11 February. He said the three then budged into the house and started beating up the couple.
After the beating, they reportedly tied them up before handing themselves to the village chief.
Supt Mopeli said by the time other villagers arrived at the house, the woman had already died while the men’s father died on the way to the hospital.
Reports say that the trio allegedly claimed that they beat up their father and his girlfriend because “their affair” had made their mother miserable.
Leribe
Three men, who were arrested by Maputsoe Police on 14 February 2019 on suspicion that they were behind a spate of armed robberies in Leribe are set to appear in court soon.
The police say the trio were caught in possession of three guns which included a 9 and 7.65 millimetre and a pump action.
Although the trio is from Thaba-Tseka, they reside in Maputsoe and the police said they will appear in court once investigations are over.
In an unrelated matter, another trio from St Monica, Hanyenye and Tsikoane were arrested by Maputsoe police on February 14 for stealing 21 gas cylinders at a Chinese store.
The three men are aged 53, 32 and 36.
The police say the 32-year-old and the 36-year-old suspects stole 21 gas cylinders (19x19kgs and 2x9kgs) on 10 February and sold them to a 53-year-old businessman for M3 000.
Fourteen of the cylinders were recovered at the 53-year-old’s business premises.
Maseru
A 44-year-old Sekamaneng man is set to appear in court to answer to charges of murder after he shot and killed his wife’s boyfriend on 14 February 2019.
What started as a Valentine’s Day sexual orgy for the 33-year-old Linakaneng victim and the suspect’s wife ended up as a deadly expedition after the love birds were caught red handed having sex in a car.
Indications are that at around 9pm on the day, the suspect found the now deceased man having sex with his wife in her car at Lema on the road to Mokhethoaneng. He immediately broke the window of the car and shot him before handing himself to the police.
In an unrelated matter, 28-year-old Ntoulane Monyake was on 11 February 2019 remanded in custody by the Maseru Magistrates’ Court for the murder of a 22-year-old Ha Ts’osane man.
The police say on 10 February 2019 at about 7am, the suspect stabbed the now deceased man multiple times accusing him of bewitching him using a chocolate. The police said the suspect alleged that since the victim gave him a chocolate last November, he has failed to get an erection.
Mr Monyake is set to appear before the same court on 25 February 2019.
In another matter, the police are on the hunt for suspects who murdered two sisters aged 20 and 15 in Ha Teko Maseru on 12 February 2019.
Supt Mopeli said the 20-year-old was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds after neighbours had gone to investigate why her one-year-old child was crying ceaselessly.
The 15-year-old was found also found dead in a neighbour’s yard.
While Supt Mopeli said the reasons for the killing are still unknown, he said it is suspected that the younger sister may have tried to escape but the assailants chased after her and also killed her.
