RAPPERS EFF EZZY and Kafela are set lock horns at the main event of Dirt Mouth at Cuban Linx tonight to battle for the M5000 prize.

Dirt Mouth, also called Versus Lesotho, was launched in June last year and is held on a monthly basis. The plan was for two rappers to battle by exchanging rhymes before the judges and audience in a friendly manner, for money, while also promoting rap in the country.

This is the second rap battle after Vodacom’s partnership with Dirt Mouth and competitors are rapping their way to the grand finale which will be held in July 2019.

Kafela became the first rapper discovered through the Vodacom radio battles and battled against the then title holder, Kat Law, on 30 August this year. Kafela beat Kat Law and will now take on Eff Ezzy.

Dirt Mouth operations officer, OG S’killz, born Sekila Molapo said their partnership with Vodacom is for 12 months.

“Vodacom has helped us financially and even got us a spot on the radio every Saturday where rappers battle to make it to the Cuban Linx battles every last Thursday of the month,” OG S’killz said.

“As Dirt Mouth we decided to use the opportunity to unpack talent and give rappers a chance to showcase themselves,

“Initially, we used to handpick the contestants but since Vodacom came on board, we asked those who are interested in battling to contact us via social media and then we choose those who will battle on radio that week.

“For one to win, they need to have elements in our criteria which include clever use of words, poetic devices and crowd control to name a few,” he said.

He said the winner competes for the title against the previous month’s winner.

EFF EZZY told the Weekender that the radio battles were a perfect preparation platform for one’s skills as they have to be cautious of their choice of words.

He said he was excited and ready for the coming battle adding that he was not intimidated by his opponent.

“I have no fear for my opponent and a I am ready for this battle,” EFF EZZY said.
