THE Ministry of Development Planning is currently developing a new National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) for a new five-year period covering 2017 to 2022.

This will guide the ministry’s operations in line with its mandate of coordinating government development priority areas, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of stipulated National Strategic Goals and conducting research to inform government initiatives.

The approach of the development of the new NSDP will be inclusivity to represent needs of all members of society and expectations and to inform designing of implementable government programmes.

This development exercise will run between 25 and 29 September in Maseru.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Development Planning, Tlohelang Aumane, the Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Correctional Services, Mahali Phamotse said the activity marks a new journey following the expiry of the 2013-2017 NSDP in February this year.

She explained that aligning Lesotho’s national plan with other development agendas would ensure the country has an NSDP that will stand the test of time and contribute to the ‘Lesotho we want’.

“It is my belief that for the ministry to achieve its mandate, the new strategic plan will reflect the key priority development areas the government should focus on in the next five years based on needs.”

Dr Phamotse added the workshop also provided an opportunity for the ministry to re-invent and re-organize itself for enhanced operations.

“This exercise will allow you to discuss issues such as how to improve the internal and external communication; coordination; monitoring and evaluation; and research and development.”
