Metropolitan Lesotho handed over a M40 000 cheque to the Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) yesterday as part of the long partnership between the two parties.
The handover ceremony was held at the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) offices in Maseru.
Speaking at the ceremony, Metropolitan Lesotho communications and marketing manager, Tšokolo Makeka, said the partnership was the company’s way of giving back to the community and helping in the development of domestic sport.
“We have done this many times before and we see it as a mandate to give back to our communities through sports and help in the development of our country,” Makeka said.
“Metropolitan Lesotho is very happy with the strides made by the volleyball association and the growth of the sport hence we continue to back them financially as the partnership goes back a long time.
“We sponsor a lot of sports activities and our strong partnership with volleyball is because they have been doing very well and are responsible,” said Makeka.
“We honour humble beginnings and we honour dedication; that is why today we are proud to announce a sponsorship of M40 000 to the volleyball association as well as tracksuits for their under-20 team. We look forward to another long partnership and hope that the team will do even better because of the kit presented to them today.”
In his speech, LVA president William Nhlapho said they were amazed with the sponsorship.
“We are really amazed by this gesture from Metropolitan Lesotho, who have been with us through the good and bad times,” Nhlapho said.
“They have been our partners for a very long time and the success of it has been because of accountability from our side.
“We believe in accountability and that is why today we have walked such a long journey with our sponsors.
“The sponsorship came very handy last year when our country was going through a lot of problems and could not access funding from the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission.
“It was because of the sponsorship from Metropolitan that we managed to go on with our activities as if nothing has happened this past year despite the financial problems.”
