DJ OozySoul will mark his 22nd birthday with a six-hour set at the popular Roma joint Kaycees on 28 March.

Dubbed Osten’s 6 Hr Marathon, the event will see Thapelo Osten, better known to his fans as OozySoul, play for six hours alone as a token of appreciation to House music lovers who he said have supported his career. According to the up-and-coming deejay, this marks the third year since he started celebrating his birthday that way although it will be the first time it is being held in Roma.

“Since I started playing professionally in 2009, it’s been three years since I decided to celebrate my birthday doing what I love,” DJ OozySoul said in an interview this week.

“During the event, I will be blending deep house tracks in the company of people who appreciate the genre.”

The Ha Leqele-based disc spinner said he chose to hold the event in Roma because “that is where I spend most of my time playing on a regular basis”.

“I have more people that are familiar with my choice of music (in Roma) and who will make my day special since I already feel comfortable around them,” said DJ OozySoul.

“The genre can be described as deep house but I consider it soul music as it touches the soul.”

Hailing all the way from Kimberly in South Africa, DJ OozySoul is also a third year Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting student at the National University of Lesotho.

Having grown up passionate about music, he was introduced to deep House by friends and later on taught how to mix tracks by legendary disc spinner, Pozzino.

DJ OozySoul said, like every artiste, he encounters a lot of challenges like “getting empty promises from sponsors and jealousy from other deejays as they see me grow”. However, he said such issues cannot get in the way of his determination to succeed.

“I see myself in the future as an international brand and record label owner who will help local deejays achieve their dreams too,” said DJ OozySoul.

“I am greatly inspired by South African House muso, Black Coffee, as he did not let disability stand in his way but strived to be the living legend he has become, who is sought after throughout the whole world.”
