The national football team (Likuena) ended their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers with a 4-2 loss to Gabon in Libreville last night.

Yesterday’s defeat was the national team’s third on the trot after losing 4-0 away to Angola, 1-0 to Burkina Faso at home last Saturday and last night’s 4-2 debacle in Libreville.

Coach Seephephe Matete last night made a few changes to the team which lost to Burkina Faso at Setsoto Stadium on Saturday, benching Matlama’s Teboho Mota, who had started Likuena’s last three matches for the fit-again versatile Bokang Mothoana.

Tšepo Seturumane, who was also forced out of last weekend’s match, regained his place in the starting line-up yesterday.

After Gabon went to the half-time break leading 1-0, Likuena managed to bounce back in the second half to make it 1-1, with  Seturumane scoring the equalising goal.

However, the Gabonese reclaimed their lead to make it 2-1 before scoring the third goal shortly afterwards.

Seturumane then scored his second goal of the match to make it 3-2 after Gabon failed to clear a Mothoana free kick.

However, Evouna Malick scored his second goal of the day towards the end of the match to make it 4-2 as Likuena suffered their third successive loss of the qualifiers.

After a promising start to the campaign, Likuena however, ended the qualifiers on a low note, failing to win any of their six matches, but only managing two draws.

Last night’s win over Likuena helped Gabon to finish top of Group C ahead of Burkina Faso who played to a 1-1 draw against Angola, also in their final match of the qualifiers.
