Mr Maps Jozi-bound

Mr Maps

MASERU — Local neo-soul and hip hop muso, Mr Maps, is set to share the stage with Motswako rapper Cassper Nyovest at Kitcheners Café in Braamfontein, Johannesburg
on Saturday.

The show is designed to cater especially for those who embrace hip hop in all its sub-genres, as well as fashion and art in general.

This was made possible by Morija-born Moeketsi Manoeli, who grew up in Johannesburg where he formed entertainment outfit Individual Max Brand.

Manoeli has been hosting a number of shows in Egoli until recently when he decided to come back to his roots (Lesotho) and help uplift local talent.

In November last year Manoeli worked with D2a Majoe to ensure the Ts’epe Vs Motswako festival, which was held at Netherlands Hall in Roma, was successful.

The event will also feature South African rappers Jab a Jaw, Just Themba, I Wrested Panther and DJ Cuddles.

Mr Maps, born Tlali Mapetla, originally hails from Masianokeng on the outskirts of Maseru.

He co-founded the national radio station Ultimate FM and hosted the then popular hip hop show Backdoor Sessions that used to air on weekends between 2006 and 2008. Mr Maps has two mix tapes to his name, Best Kept Secret Volume 1 and 2 and graces popular Maseru joint, Litaleng, on a regular basis performing hip hop shows.

He forms part of the band Royale, with flamboyant rapper L-tore. Mr Maps performed in Johannesburg in December last year as the opening act for Cape Town musician
Zaki Ibrahim, daughter to Jazz legend Abdullah Ibrahim.

He said he is looking forward to rocking South Africa once again.

“My performance in Johannesburg was well received by the crowd there as it led to me securing this one,” he told the Weekender on Tuesday.

“I am more looking forward to this upcoming one as the target market will comprise people who will find my music appealing, which is lounge, disco and soul blended
with a bit of hip hop.

“My mission is to create mutual relations with South African artistes so that I can bridge the gap between them and local acts through my company Emotiv PR,” he said.
