MASERU — Five young beauty queens will be vying for the national title when they compete in the Miss Kingdom Nation competition at Victoria Hotel next Saturday.

The competition has been split into five segments, Tiny (four to six years), Petty (seven to 10 years), Preteen (11-14 years), Teen (15-17

years) and the adult category for ladies aged 18 to 25.

“This will be the first national pageant that is aimed at promoting culture and heritage.

“The activities of the day will be based on tourism and Basotho culture such as traditional dances and clothing,” Limakatso Makutle,

said on behalf of the organisers.

“We are trying to portray a different image regarding national pageants that they are not only about catwalks and walking on ramps but the beauty queens also need to know where they come from in order to know where they are going.”

The pageant is also intended to introduce the children to the world of the beauty industry at a

very tender age so that they grow up to be experts when it comes to competitions of this nature, said Makutle.

She said the contestants will camp at Bambatha Ts’ita Sports Arena this weekend.

“We will have a camp which will enable the judges to do the prejudging,” she said.

“The entrants will be judged based on their behaviour and the way they conduct themselves this Saturday as the pageant is not all about looks but the person’s inner qualities.”
