SOUTH African rap superstar, Kwesta “Mr Cool”, is set to perform in Lesotho for the first time tomorrow at the Khubetsoana-based club 4Fordy.

According to the event’s Marketing Officer, Katleho Rammoko, they chose Kwesta since he is riding high on a crest of popularity in the neighboring country in particular and Africa in general.

Rammoko also said the fact that he was yet to perform in Lesotho was another compelling factor.

She said: “Kwesta, also known as the African King of Rap, is one of the top 10 rappers in South Africa and his word play matches with his contemplative lyrics and witty punchlines.

“He has always managed to release hits such as Boom Shakalaka, U Got It and Do like I Do which serve as a testimonial to Kwesta’s talent.”

Rammoko said revelers should expect more South African headliners throughout the year as part of their efforts to give exposure to local artistes.

“We have also selected the best local rappers who will match Kwesta’s standards and we believe sharing the stage with him will raise the profiles of local artistes and create opportunities for future collaborations,” she said.

Kwesta will perform alongside L-Tore, Jiji F, T-Mech, Skebz D and SirNic among others.

Born Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi 26 years ago in Katlehong township in the East Rand of Johannesburg, Kwesta earned his stripes by winning rap battles.

In early 2010 Kwesta was selected to be a Brand SA ambassador performing as the headline act at their nationwide roadshow tour in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup. He also collaborated with African greats like 2-Face, Jozi and others on MTN’s Everywhere You Go anthem which featured Kelly Rowland from Destiny’s Child.

His debut album Special Rekwest was released in September 2010 and spawned the hits Flava which secured a DSTV synch-deal for their summer theme piece.
The release of his biggest smash hit Boom Shaka Laka featured Kid-X of Cashtime Fam was arguably the biggest release of 2012 and also marked his departure from Buttabing Entertainment in November that year to establish his own independent label, Urbantainment.

Kwesta’s sophomore album DAKAR – Da King of Afrikan Rap which was released digitally November 2013 received rave reviews from fans and industry insiders and even won him the Best Hip Hop Album at the 2014 Metro FM Music Awards.
