MASERU — Stand-up comedian Makara Mapuru is set to crack his shaggy dog tales at the Poetry and Comedy Night tomorrow.

Better known by his stage moniker Cura, the funny man has promised to make people laugh their lungs out.

The show, which will see budding poets and other comedians performing, is pencilled in for Victoria Hotel in the capital.

The Poetry and Comedy Night is a BAM Promotions initiative.

“Yes, I am going to make people laugh at the Poetry and Comedy Night,” Cura told the Weekender.

“My main work is to help people release stress by making sure that they laugh throughout my presentation.”

Cura presents the Qaboha (Laugh) programme on People’s Choice FM every Monday.

He joined People’s Choice FM in 1998.

Cura has taken his funnies beyond Lesotho’s borders, performing in countries such as South Africa and Swaziland.

He made it to the semi-finals at the “So You Think You Are Funny” competition held in Durban last November. The competition was broadcast live on SABC 1.

BAM Promotions public relations coordinator Mpho Sefali said in a press release the Poetry and Comedy Night was meant to promote artistic talent.

“The purpose of this show is to improve the level of appreciation of poetry and comedy in the country,” Sefali said.
