LAST Friday was one of the most anticipated nights for revellers as swanky joint, 4Fordy in Khubetsoana, played host to South African rapper Cassper Nyovest with the support of local acts.

However, the weather on the day had other ideas with a bitterly cold front submerging the capital and threatening to scupper the long awaited party.

Thankfully, the revellers’ party mood was irrepressible with 4Fordy slowly but surely filling up with people until it was fully packed.

As has become the norm when foreign acts perform, the curtain raising local artistes acquitted themselves well and dispelled the myth that Basotho artistes cannot make the grade. It is safe to say that the local performers upped the ante for the main act Mafikeng-based rapper.

Juvy set the ball rolling with an outstanding performance that revved the crowd, with Jiji F and the MIP entourage following suit by belting out their popular tracks which have become club anthems.

Not to be outdone, D2a-Majoe leader, Kommanda Obbs, made a grand entrance into the club and carried to the stage like a statue. Thereafter, Kommanda Obbs’ protégés unleashed tracks from their recently released offering, Nalane.

The moment every reveller had been waiting for finally came when Cassper, spotting his trademark ponytail, took to the stage. The deafening screams of the ladies in front of the stage and the whistles of the guys attested to the popularity of the Mafikeng-born rapper.

And he delivered, plunging the packed club into a frenzy. As soon as Cassper Nyovest started flowing in his Tswana verses, the crowd moved to the edge on the stage, prompting club officials to put a barrier. Cassper Nyovest wowed the crowd with Gusheshe and Doc Sheeleza and then acquainted them to his new material from the recent album Tsholofelo, capping a night to remember for many despite the chill.
