A 27-year-old Quthing man is in police custody for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl on 30 October this year.

According to deputy police spokesperson Senior Inspector Lerato Motseki the man was arrested the next day after returning to collect his phone from the alleged victim.

“It is reported that on 30 October, a 14-year-old girl was sleeping in her bedroom when a 27-year-old man from Ha Mosihle, Quthing entered her bedroom and raped her,” she said, adding the suspect ran away when the girl called for help.

Senior Inspector Motseki said the girl’s parents alerted the police after she narrated her ordeal and handed over the suspect’s mobile phone which he had left behind.

“The following day, the suspect came back to the girl to collect his mobile phone not knowing the police were waiting to arrest him.

Senior Inspector Motseki also urged parents and guardians to take extra-precautions in protecting their children against rape and other violations.
