A 36-year-old Leribe woman who was initially charged with attempted murder for shooting her husband on 31 October this year will now face murder charge after he died in hospital.
Senior Inspector Lerato Motseki said police reports suggested the husband – who was of the same age — went to Ha ‘Makhoarana in Leribe for a number of days without informing his wife — ‘Manthabiseng Ntabanyane.
“The man allegedly spent days in Ha ‘Makhoarana with another woman with whom he fathered a child. This greatly angered the wife, and upon his return, the suspect asked her brother to mediate between them,” Senior Inspector Motseki said.
“The man was apparently angered by the suggestion of an intervention and refused to entertain his wife’s pleas. This allegedly infuriated Ntabanyane – who took her husband’s illegal firearm and shot him.”
She said the man was rushed to Motebang Hospital but was later transferred to Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital given the seriousness of his condition.
“The man died on the day his wife appeared before the courts for attempted murder charges. She was therefore remanded into custody and now that her husband is dead, new charges will be read to her when she reappears in court on 15 November this year,” added Senior Inspector Motseki.
