ALL roads will on Saturday lead to Maseru Club grounds for the finale of the fifth edition of the Vodacom Superstars talent search competition where four winners will be announced.
The Vodacom Superstar challenge was launched in 2011 as a music, dance, as well as female and male deejays’ competition aimed at uplifting the entertainment sector.
Just like last year, the winners in the four categories will each walk away M70 000 richer and with a package from South Africa’s renowned Kalawa Jazmee Records.
The package includes a recording deal for the music category winner while the dance category winner will get to feature in a video with one of Kalawa’s top artistes. The winning deejays will get a chance to perform alongside Kalawa boss DJ Oskido in two gigs in South Africa.
The first and second runner ups in each category will each get M40 000 and M20 000 respectively.
The multi-million project has given wings to a number of local acts such as L-Tore, Vesta, DJ Linah, Converse Heroes, Stlofa and Palesa Motlomelo.
This year’s competition was launched on 11 June and auditions were held shortly after in the country’s three regions.
Two hundred artistes made it to the second phase (Step Up) which was held on 23 July where the list was cut down to 40 finalists with 10 in each category. Each of the 40 contestants was presented with an SMS code through which people voted.
After that those who got the lowest votes were eliminated on a fortnightly basis to leave the top six in each category. These were further whittled down on 17 September to 12 contestants with three in each category and it is from these that the winners will be chosen on Saturday.
The finalists will perform for the last time in front of the judges and fans at the function that will also be graced by popular South African acts Kwesta, Four and Oskido. They will perform alongside local acts Bootz, Kopper, Mtsuzi and Juvy. Last year’s superstars L-Tore, Vesta, Linah and Converse Heroes will get the chance to remind the country why they came out winners by also performing.
