IN a major boost for digital learning, Vodacom Lesotho has handed over a fully equipped computer lab to New Millennium High School as part of the M-Pesa Elevate Education Campaign valued at M500 000.

It features twelve high-performance desktop computers, essential peripherals, and a strong network infrastructure, providing seamless internet access and pre-loaded educational software.

This development aligns with Vodacom’s broader strategy to enhance education through digital transformation.

The initiative, which promotes digital literacy and encourages school fee payments through M-Pesa, has already benefited several schools across Lesotho, including St. Barnabas High School, Lesotho High School, Mapetla High School, and Sefate Sa Bophelo English Medium School since its inception in 2017.

Speaking at the official handover yesterday, Vodacom Lesotho Chief Executive Officer, Mohale Ralebitso, underscored the broader impact of the donation.

“This computer lab is not just about technology; it is an investment in the future of our youth. We encourage students to harness this opportunity to develop digital skills and innovate, just as M-Pesa itself was an innovation that transformed financial transactions,” Mr Mohale said.

The VCL Financial Services Merchants Manager, Corina Mosala, highlighted how M-Pesa is revolutionizing school payments.

“With M-Pesa, parents no longer need to carry cash, and students no longer need to stand in long queues at banks. We applaud New Millennium High School for adopting digital payments and urge the government to consider a nationwide transition to M-Pesa for school fees,” Ms Mosala said.

New Millennium Board Chairperson, Teboho Rakhomo, expressed gratitude for the donation.

“This state-of-the-art facility is a game-changer for our students. We deeply appreciate Vodacom’s commitment to education and call on our students to use this resource responsibly to benefit future generations,” he said.

A parents’ representative, ‘Mamatebele Mokuenihi, echoed the sentiment, commending the efficiency of M-Pesa for school fees.

Meanwhile, Kapari Mosothoane from the Ministry of Education and Training, lauded Vodacom as a key enabler of education.

“This donation aligns with our mission to equip learners with 21st-century skills and prepare them for a digitally driven world,” Mr Mosothoane remarked.

Students also shared their excitement about the new facility. Tebello Malefane, a student representative, described the computer lab as “a seed planted for the future,” emphasizing that it would empower learners and benefit the nation as they become future leaders.
