FIRST division football action gets underway this weekend with double headers in both Southern and Northern streams on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
On Saturday, Mangau will take to the field against Majantja. That match will be followed by the Manonyane – Swallows clash at St Theresa Ground in Roma.
The Manonyane – Swallows tie is expected to produce fireworks with the Roma side having signed a number of former premier league stars including Mpho Matsinyane who was at Matlama last season.
In other matches to be played on Saturday, former premier league side Melele host first division newcomers Quthing LMPS in Qacha’s Nek.
Another former premier league side, Qoaling Highlanders will host Roma Boys in a match that could also produce fireworks.
Action swings to the Northern stream on Sunday at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena where Sefotha-fotha, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the premier league on the last day of the previous season will take on Lerotholi Polytechnic.
Limkokwing University — formerly Nyenye Rovers — will do battle with Roaring Lions at the same venue while Mphatlatsane who were relegated from the premier league last season will begin their new campaign with an away fixture to Maseru Naughty Boys.
In an interview with the Lesotho Times this week, A Division Management Committee (ADMACO) public relations officer, Mothusi Letsie, said they were ready to roll out the new leage in style.
“We decided to start our new league campaign with double headers in the two streams and believe it will be exciting for our fans,” Letsie said.
“On Saturday, we will be in Roma at St Theresa ground with a double header of the southern stream and northern stream to follow suit on Sunday at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.”
Letsie, however, bemoaned the lack of sponsorship for the league, saying it would be bankrolled by the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) as has been the case over the past two seasons.
“We are still without a sponsor but remain hopeful we will get something along the way. We are also working on the logistics for the Splits competition which hopefully, will be the cup competition for the A division clubs,” he said.
