A 78-year-old chief of Ha Kholoanyane and his wife (75) were brutally killed in their Matelile home on Friday last week.

According to police spokesperson Clifford Molefe, the victims’ granddaughters aged 13 and 19, were allegedly raped by the assailants who remain on the loose.

According to police spokesperson Clifford Molefe, the victims were stabbed “by some sharp object” given the nature of their wounds.

The Lesotho Times has withheld the names of the deceased to protect the identity of their surviving suspected rape victims.

“We are still trying to establish what could have been the reason behind these attacks. Up to now, no arrests have been made in connection with the tragedy,” Senior Inspector Molefe said yesterday.

The incident, he added, could have taken place around 11pm and Senior Inspector Molefe said anyone with information that could help bring the perpetrators to book should contact the police.

“We are not sure as to how many assailants could have been involved in this unfortunate incident, but we could be talking of three men, at most,” he said.

“The assailants will be charged with murder and rape once found and we are working night and day to bring them to book and ensure that justice is served for the victims.”
