THE CENTRAL Bank of Lesotho (CBL) yesterday donated a vehicle to Sentebale at Mamohato Children’s Village in Thaba-Bosiu as part of their social responsibility programme.

Sentebale supports orphans and vulnerable children, many of whom are affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, assisting them to access education and psychosocial support to enable them to lead healthy and productive lives.

CBL acting Governor, Masilo Makhetha said the 15-seater vehicle donation fulfilled a long-standing request Sentebale made to them in 2015. He said they could not assist at the time the request was made because they had other applications to attend to.

“We have a social responsibility policy to assist where there is dire need,” Dr Makhetha said, adding they had decided help Sentebale after realising it had become difficult for them to go to their beneficiaries around the country.

He said they had donated one of their staff vehicles that would normally be auctioned after a certain period of usage, adding the car was still in excellent condition.

For her part, Sentebale Acting Country Director, Moleboheng Patose said the vehicle would go a long way towards minimising transport costs of visiting beneficiaries around the country.

“We are going to transport children from their homes during our camps and there won’t be a need to hire transport as we used to do before,” Ms Patose said.

“We use a lot of money to transport the children and the donation will make a great difference.

“The children’s safety will also improve while time will also be saved as we will not have to wait for hired transport for long hours,” she added.
