THE Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho, has launched the EcoCash Agents Campaign — a dynamic and rewarding initiative aimed at energizing EcoCash’s agent network and deepening financial inclusion across Lesotho.

The campaign, launched at Lancers Inn in Maseru yesterday, celebrated the crucial role EcoCash Spache-fono agents play in connecting communities to digital financial services.

Set to run until 30 September this year, the EcoCash Agents Campaign is open to all active EcoCash agents and sub-agents throughout the country.

Its objective is to increase weekly and monthly cash-in transactions by at least 20 percent. Agents who meet this target will be eligible for a variety of cash prizes. One agent in each of the 10 districts will receive M1000 every week. Each month, one lucky agent from each of the three regions — North, Central, and South — will receive M10,000.

The campaign will culminate in a grand prize of M100,000 for one outstanding agent. New or reactivated agents who transact consistently for two months will qualify to enter the grand draw in the third month.

Speaking at the launch, SEFS General Manager, Moeketsi Mafereka, expressed pride in rolling out a campaign that places agents at the heart of EcoCash’s growth strategy. He described the initiative as more than just a promotional effort, but rather a celebration and recognition of the critical role played by EcoCash agents.

“This is not just another campaign. It is a celebration, a moment to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our EcoCash agents, who are the heart and soul of our mobile money ecosystem,” Mr Mafereka said.

He highlighted that EcoCash, under SEFS, had played a transformative role in Lesotho’s financial sector over the last decade, with agents serving as a central pillar of that transformation.

These agents, he said, were the face of the brand in both towns and rural villages, enabling Basotho to send and receive money, pay bills, purchase goods and services, and even save for emergencies.

Mr Mafereka said EcoCash agents were more than just cash handlers. He described them as frontliners of financial inclusion, making it possible for a grandmother in Mokhotlong or a street vendor in Maputsoe to access secure and convenient financial services.

“For over a decade, EcoCash Spache-fono has played a transformational role in Lesotho’s financial landscape. From a simple platform that enabled Basotho to send and receive money, EcoCash has evolved into a powerful engine of digital financial services that supports millions of people. It helps them pay bills, purchase goods, access airtime and bundles, and run businesses — all through the convenience of mobile money.”

He described EcoCash agents as silent heroes and the backbone of customer experience, adding that through this campaign, SEFS was investing in their continued empowerment and success.

Mr Mafereka said the campaign was part of SEFS’s broader mission to ensure that no one is left behind in the digital economy. He also said financial inclusion goes beyond simple transactions. It also includes security and dignity. In this regard, he pointed to EcoSure, SEFS’s microinsurance product, which is designed to provide families with peace of mind and ensure that loved ones receive the dignified burials they deserve.
