MASERU — Thirty-eight artistes who won the Lesotho Haeso Music Awards last April are set to be rewarded at last.

The deputy principal secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Jobo Molapo, told the Weekender the artistes and groups will receive M3 000 each.

Molapo said the original plan was to give the artistes musical equipment but due to procurement delays they had decided to reward the winning artistes with cash.

“The awards were initiated to provide a platform of sustainability to local artistes and as much as we are giving them money, they are reminded that it is to buy musical equipment,” Molapo said.

Molapo said they were hoping the private sector will chip in and support the music awards.

Music organisations and groups should join hands and run the awards sustainably for their own benefit.

“Local music organisations and groups should come together and sustain the music industry and continue the Lesotho Haeso Music Awards,” he said.

A member of the organising team, Likotsi Lemeke, told the Weekender all artistes had been informed to come and pick up their prizes.

He said those in remote areas would collect their prizes from tourism offices in their respective districts.

“Artistes are expected to collect their prizes from the Ministry of Tourism offices in Maseru from this week. The money was authorised this week,” Lemeke said.

The artistes are due to receive their prizes in five categories of famo, kwaito, gospel, jazz and jip hop.
