ECO tourism group, Hope Extreme Adventures, will host a three-day hiking and camping expedition from Ketane to Semonkong from 27 to 29 March.

According to Hope Extreme Adventures’ Marketing Manager Tšepo Ramokotjo, the aim of the event is to help participants “get in touch with nature” and also promote tourism in Lesotho.

“Getting in touch with nature helps refresh the mind and get a perfect start over the weekend away from daily routines,” said Ramokotjo, who is also a Senior Instructor.

“The outdoors are the perfect place to meditate and break away from the stress and depression of everyday life.

“We invite people to join us in the quest to find our inner selves and conquer the fear of heights as well as exploring nature, which will all be done through hiking.”

He said their aim was to promote attractions off the beaten tourist track, some of which are not even known by most Basotho. As an emerging company formed in 2011, Ramokotjo said they wanted to create a niche market and boost the tourism sector in the process.

“Since Hope Extreme Adventures’ formation in 2011, our focus has mainly been on extreme activities in our efforts to promote healthy lifestyles whilst also enhancing our tourism sector by showcasing this country’s breathtaking scenery,” he said.

Ramokotjo further said although this would be their first event for the Ketane to Semonkong area, they previously held other hiking and camping events in such places as Qiloane Waterfall, Qeme and hiking from Mokhotlong to South Africa’s Natal province.

“Our events are different from the rest that are organised by other organisations in that they are expeditions, meaning that we do not have cars that carry our luggage but carry it ourselves so that people can experience everything that has to do with hiking and camping,” he said.

Hope Extreme Adventures also offers such activities as rock climbing and abseiling, paintball, archery, horse riding, city tours and teambuilding games.
