MASERU –– After the appetiser of the MGC Supa 8 quarter-finals in Butha-Buthe, Matsieng and then LCS’s central prisons, the main course that is Lesotho’s football season will now begin.
Although the 2009/10 Buddie Premier League only kicks off on August 22, the Supa 8 finals weekend is more than enough to wet the taste buds.
This weekend sees a special two-day football feast where Lesotho’s top four clubs, Lioli, LDF, LCS and LMPS will be the main ingredients in Roma.
The desserts for the winners: M60 000.
Two mouth-watering matches –– LCS vs LDF and Lioli vs LMPS –– will be on the plate. The winners of those ties will progress to Sunday’s final while the losers will contest a loser’s lunch.
But it will not be that straight-forward; it never is, especially when the season’s first honour is up for grabs.
The first semi-final is a repeat of last year’s final. Defending Supa 8 champions LCS looking to silence LDF’s big guns.
But for LDF revenge is on the menu and the soldiers can look to the two sides’ last clash –– a 3-0 league win in May –– for motivation. LDF coach Motheo Mohapi however does not believe this gives his side any psychological advantage.
“I don’t think so, those are things from last season and they belong to the past. This is a new season and a new game,” Mohapi told the Lesotho Times.
