MASERU— Matlama FC will on April 1 mark the club’s 80th anniversary.

The club this week said they had already started visiting churches which helped establish the team to help plan activities for the day.

Former Matlama administrator Tsiu Monne has been appointed to help organise the anniversary celebrations.

“Yes it is true that we’ve engaged him (Tsiu Monne) to help organise the anniversary,” Lesolle Phalatsi, Matlama’s communications and marketing manager told the Lesotho Times this week.

Monne said they want to use the anniversary to bring unity, peace, discipline and source funds to improve the team.

“We want to use this 80th anniversary to bring unity, good performance, peace, money, blessings and discipline into the team,” Monne said.

“We want all our celebrations to be stylish and something which Lesotho has never experienced before.”

The first celebrations on April 1 will involve a funwalk from Pitso Ground to Maseru Club. There will also be live performances by South African musicians.

The club will however hold a second event in June that will include a Miss Matlama beauty contest and fashion shows.

“We will then end the celebrations by releasing Matlama’s second album that is being produced by professional artistes,” Monne said.

Monne said the purpose of holding all these activities is to raise funds for the team.

“The main purpose of all these events is to raise funds for Matlama and help bring (financial) stability to the team,” he said.

Matlama FC, popularly known as the Glamour Boys, is the country’s most successful club. It has won the league title a record nine times since 1974.
