MASERU — The Vodacom Premier League will start on August 21, the Lesotho Football Association’s (Lefa) acting chief executive officer Mokhosi Mohapi has revealed.

The start date for the new Premiership season had been uncertain because league clubs are yet to receive their prize monies for last season.

Elections to choose a new Premier League management committee also have to be held before the season starts.

The Premier League has again this week been unable to clarify when these issues will be resolved.

Nevertheless Mohapi said barring any catastrophe the league should start in August.

“We are working on some final details (but) the league will start on the 21st of August,” Mohapi told the Lesotho Times on Tuesday.

He also said negotiations to stage the MGC Supa 8, the eight-team pre-season tournament which is contested by the previous season’s top four sides from the Premier League and the First Division, were on-going.

Last season the MGC Supa 8 kicked off on August 1 but there has been no word whether the tournament would continue this season or when it will start.

The two-year agreement between the Matekane Group of Companies (MGC) and Lefa ended last season.

MGC had pumped in M200 000 into the two editions that have been held so far and, after the premiership and the Vodacom Soccer Spectacular, the MGC Supa 8 is the third most important competition in Lesotho.
