Woman raped, then murdered

MASERU — A 27-year-old woman from Ha-Tsolo was allegedly raped before being brutally killed last Saturday.

Police spokesperson Masupha Masupha said the woman appeared to have been raped before she was killed.

The deceased had about five wounds all over her body. The one on her right breast was open, he said.

Masupha said they had no reason to suspect that this was a ritual killing.

“We heard that it was said at one funeral ceremony that the woman was killed in a ritual murder. That is not true; she was raped and killed,” Masupha said.

He added that a suspect has since been arrested and police were following leads to arrest the second one.

According to a police report the woman was last seen leaving a public bar in the early morning hours on Saturday in the company of one man.

The man was later arrested as the first suspect.

“Investigations are going on to find the second suspect. It is not yet clear why the woman was killed,” Masupha said.

In another incident in Ha-Tsolo on Friday, a 25 year-old man was found dead with a deep wound on his neck.

A 23-year-old suspect has since been arrested, the police said.

It is suspected that the suspect stabbed the deceased, who was a co-worker, after they had a disagreement over a payment.

The two were building a house together in Ha-Tsolo.

The suspect was arrested and is yet to appear before court.
