MASERU — Police in Mohale’s Hoek are investigating a police officer who was caught red-handed with three bags of dagga at his home on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson Masupha Masupha said the police found the bags during a search after one bag of dagga was discovered missing from the police station’s exhibits room on Sunday morning.
“The police officers were doing a re-check of the items that were collected at the police station when they discovered that one bag of dagga was missing,” Masupha said.
He said police immediately launched a search in the nearby villages but they could not find anything.
“The police decided to go to the home of the police officer because he was on duty the night before. When they got to his place it was around 9.30 am and they found three bags of dagga,” he said.
“His explanation was that those bags were not part of the missing stuff. He had found those bags from someone else. He explained that he was going to take those bags to the police station.”
He said the police had launched an investigation to find out how he got the bags.
“The police officer was not arrested and he is still on duty because the police are still carrying out investigations.”
Masupha however refused to give the officer’s name and age only saying he was a constable.
