Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter believes new signings Katlego Mphela and George Maluleka have bolstered the strength of his squad.
“I think we have a stronger squad now,” says Baxter.
“Obviously, the players that have come in will increase the competition. But I think other teams have also made acquisitions which they will feel also puts them in a better place as well.
“In this window when you bring in players you have to get them to gel them into the work that you have been doing for the past five to six months with the other players. So sometimes it works, yet sometimes it doesn’t and sometimes it even takes longer.
“We feel that the acquisitions that we have made will gel pretty quickly and also we are basically happy with the squad that we have got. We will need to get them into the system gradually and I am sure in the long they will all be very good acquisitions for the club. I do feel we have a stronger squad now.”
The Englishman adds that Mphela’s fitness will be monitored going forward, with the ex-Bafana Bafana star seeing limited game-time at former club Mamelodi Sundowns in recent seasons.
“Katlego will make us more competitive though for now we need to monitor his fitness. For now we are excited about having him here and he will work in a conducive environment where he will be pushed from the back.”
