TELECOMMUNICATIONS company, Econet Telecom Lesotho, has expanded its smartphone offering with the launch of the Econet Prime Pro 5G, a device aimed at making next-generation mobile connectivity more accessible to Basotho.
The 5G-enabled smartphone is designed to provide faster connectivity, greater storage flexibility and modern mobile features at an affordable price.
The new device builds on the Econet Prime smartphone range introduced in 2024 as part of the company’s efforts to improve access to modern connectivity and digital technology in Lesotho.
With 5G connectivity, the Econet Prime Pro 5G enables customers to access faster mobile services for browsing, streaming, communication and other everyday digital activities.
The smartphone comes with 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM, while storage can be expanded by up to 1TB, providing additional space for photographs, videos, applications, music and documents.
It also supports Dual SIM and eSIM, giving users greater flexibility in managing their mobile connections. Wi-Fi Calling and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) provide additional connectivity options and support improved voice-call quality.
Speaking at the launch in Maseru yesterday, Econet Telecom Lesotho acting General Manager for Marketing Communications and Customer Experience, Puleng Masoabi, said the new device reflected the company’s continued focus on making newer mobile technologies more accessible.
“As 5G becomes an increasingly important part of how people connect, work, learn and enjoy digital services, access to compatible devices is equally important,” Ms Masoabi said.
“With the Econet Prime Pro 5G, we are giving our customers a practical and affordable way to take advantage of the next generation of connectivity without compromising on the everyday features they need from a smartphone.”
The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and features a 13MP camera for capturing photographs and everyday moments.
Ms Masoabi said the smartphone had been developed in response to the changing needs of customers who increasingly depend on their phones for more than basic communication.
“Smartphones have become central to how our customers communicate, transact, access entertainment, create content and participate in the digital economy,” she said.
“The Econet Prime Pro 5G brings together the connectivity, storage, flexibility and battery performance customers need, at a price that makes the move to 5G more attainable.”
The launch forms part of Econet’s broader digital inclusion drive, which seeks to complement the continued development of its network with devices that allow customers to experience newer mobile technologies.
The Econet Prime Pro 5G retails for M3100 and is available at Econet shops across the country.
