South African police are preparing an intensified law-enforcement operation in Kempton Park and surrounding areas after the discovery of another woman’s body brought the number of women found dead in the Ekurhuleni area over the past two months to eight.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said police visibility would be substantially increased through Operation Shanela, alongside a multidisciplinary team of investigators and other specialists working on the killings.

Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane said one suspect had been arrested and another was being sought in connection with the deaths. Police have offered a R400,000 reward for information that leads to a breakthrough.

The latest development follows a series of discoveries across Ekurhuleni that have heightened public concern. Authorities have been investigating whether the cases are connected as they expand operations in the affected communities.
