POLICE are investigating the death of a Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) member whose body was discovered in an official military vehicle parked along Mpilo Boulevard this week.
The deceased, a sergeant, was found unresponsive inside the LDF vehicle in an incident which could mark the second suspected suicide of a soldier in just two months.
In May, Captain Tšitso Sebehela allegedly took his own life after a domestic altercation at his residence within Ratjomose Barracks in Maseru.
The LDF spokesperson, Colonel Sakeng Lekola, issued a press release confirming the incident.
“A member of the LDF was found deceased at Mpilo Boulevard on the morning of 22 July 2025 in a service vehicle. The health department confirmed he was dead, prompting the military authority to notify the police,” said the statement.
Col Lekola said the actual cause of death has not yet been established and police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, said investigations continue.
