MODEL Mojabeng Senekal has broken new ground and could soon be rubbing shoulders with the A-Listers in South Africa after featuring in a movie titled Losing Lerato which premiers this month.
The beauty queen says although she is not sure if she will be doing it full time, she finds it an interesting career and is willing to do more and is now trying to find her feet in the art.
Senekal plays a secretary from whose school the protagonist, Kagiso Modupe, kidnaps his daughter.
The movie was shot in September 2018 and is set at Duduza Secondary School in Springs, Gauteng.
Losing Lerato is a South African story about a young black man who takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping his daughter having be separated from the woman he once loved and his child.
His actions put him on collision course with the law and he finds himself in a high-stakes hostage situation.
The movie addresses issues that happen in many South African families where many children are often used as weapons in fights between their estranged parents. Children are trapped in their parents’ feud where many times, they are expected to take sides of one of the parents.
Likewise, in the movie, Modupe goes to extremes to be with his daughter and this lands him onto the wrong side of the law.
Senekal told the Weekender that she does not know if she would end up acting full time as she is still occupied with modelling and brand influencing projects for different companies.
Directed by Sanele Zulu, Losing Lerato is set to open in South African theatres on 13 September after its premier on 12 September.
Modupe, who also features on Mzansi Magic daily drama series The Throne plays a lead role in the film.
Senekal said she would be in Mpumalanga at the premier to interact with the audience.
“I will be doing a meet and greet in Mpumalanga with everyone who will be there to watch the movie,” Senekal said.
