LMPS boosted their chances of a top eight finish in the 2018/19 Econet Premier League after they cruised to a 2-nil win victory over Kick4Life at LCS Ground on Sunday.
The police side faces stiff competition from the likes of Likhopo, Liphakoe and Sefotha-fotha who are also in contention for a top eight finish that will nebale them to contest in next season’s LNIG Top8 tournament.
Nkau Lerotholi put LMPS ahead in the first half while Tanki Makhele scored the second to complete the victory over the Bob Mafoso coached side that has blown hot and cold this season.
Simunye, as LMPS is affectionately known, climbed to eighth following the victory while Kick4Life are two places above them.
The police side is on 30 points after 22 games while Kick4Life has 32 points after the same number of games.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Bantu kept their title hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over recently crowned LNIG Top8 champions LDF.
LDF won the battle of the two teams in the cup competition a fortnight ago but A Matšo Matebele were able to get their revenge on Sunday.
Thabo Lesooana put the Mafeteng outfit ahead a few minutes into the second half with a powerful strike before Litšepe Marabe added the second late in the game to seal a 2-0 victory that kept Bantu in the race for the league title.
Bantu, who are looking to win the league title for the third-year in a row, are eight points behind Matlama but have a game in hand.
A Matšo Matebele have 42 points after 20 games.
Lioli were also in action on Sunday but were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Sefotha-Fotha at PTC Ground. Despite dropping points against Sefotha-fotha, Tse Nala remain in fourth on 35 points after 22 games.
On Saturday, Matlama maintained their place at the top of the Econet Premier League registering their 16th victory in 22 matches with a 2-0 win over Likhopo in the Maseru derby at Setsoto Stadium.
Motebang Sera scored the first goal for Thabile Secker’s side to take his tally to 13 for this campaign while Jane Thabantšo netted the second as Matlama edge closer to their first league title in almost a decade.
Tse Putsoa are at the summit of the table with 50 points after 21 games and remain on course to winning their record 10th Premier League title.
LCS also remain in the race for the championship after edging relegation threatened Majantja 1-0 courtesy of a Makara Ntaitsane late goal.
Masheshena are in second position with 45 points but have played a game more than pacesetters Matlama.
Liphakoe also improved their chances for a top eight finish Saturday beating Galaxy 1-0 at Maputsoe DIFA Ground.
Moeketsi Sephiri scored the solitary goal for Thabo Tsutsulupa’s side which moved into seventh at the expense of Likhopo.
Linare, who have also had a difficult season got a hard-fought victory beating bottom of the table Swallows 1-0.
