A MASOWE man, TLALI Kolobe, (23) has been slapped with a 10 year jail term after the Magistrate Court found him guilty of raping a 30 year old woman who had gone for maternity check-up at the Mabote Filter Clinic on 30 November 2016.

He was not given the opportunity of paying a fine.

Qacha’s Nek

Two men from Phuleng village were found guilty of possessing marijuana when they appeared before the Magistrate Court in Qacha’s Nek on 4 December 2017.

Kali Makoae (63) and Charles Tonts’I (37) were found in possession of 3.3 kg and 2.8kg of marijuana respectively.

Makoae was sentenced to six months in prison or a fine of M600 while Tonts’I was given five months or a fine of M500.

They managed to pay the fines.

Mokhotlong

Mohato Seeiso (45) from Linareng appeared before the Magistrate Court on 6 December 2017 to face charges of murdering a 60 year old man from Liraoheleng. He was remanded in custody.

According to police spokesperson, Inspector Mpiti Mopeli, Seeiso shot the deceased several times leaving him dead after a dispute over cattle that were grazing in the wetlands.

Seeiso fled after the incident and was caught by the villagers of nearby Ha Koeneo.

In another development, eight men aged from 18 and 20 years appeared before the Magistrate Court on the 5 December 2017 on charges of repeatedly raping a 15 year old girl.

“These men found the girl fetching water from the well at about 7pm and they raped her in turns”, Inspector Mopeli said.

They were all given a bail of M800 and M2000 of surety which they all failed to pay. They will appear again in court on 19 December 2017.

Thaba Tseka

‘Muso Toka (30) from Mpokochela in Tlokoeng was found guilty of stock theft by the Magistrate of Thaba-Tseka.

He will serve an effective three years in prison after failing to pay a fine of M 9000 for stealing four cattle and two donkeys on 4 December 2017.

Quthing

Molanteli Macena (56) of Sixondo in Ha Shemane recently appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in Quthing to face charges of murdering his 50 year-old wife.

Inspector Mopeli said Macena allegedly committed the offence by stabbing his wife several times.

This followed a dispute stemming from his suspicions that his wife was having an extra-marital affair. Macena was remanded in custody and is set to appear in court again on 20 December 2017.
