RISING local comedian, Tshepo “Masapo” Mpiti is set to add to his growing curriculum vitae with upcoming gigs lined up for South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho.

Masapo will perform with top comedians South African such as Mashabela, Javas, Piyet, Gunner, Walker, Ivan Bird and Malome Shorty at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein on 15 April. On 27 April, he takes his act to Swaziland before his homecoming performance on 6 May.

The Sea Point-born Masapo this week told the Weekender that the exposure would boost his chances of winning the coveted Pan African Comics Choice Award.

“The Bloemfontein booking will be my first epic gig in South Africa but I have previously shared the stage with Mashabela in October 2016 when he was in Lesotho,” Masapo said from his base in Bloemfontein.

“This means more exposure for me as I can now alternate between two countries (Lesotho and South Africa) doing my craft and create a larger fan base. This will help garner more votes if I get nominated for the Pan African Comics Choice Award which I am currently chasing.

“The host, Shaun Dihoro, works at my school (CUT) as a radio presenter and we met last year after he heard about me. He has been asking me to perform at his shows but up to now my schedule was tight.”

Masapo was a guest at last year’s Pan African Comics Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa where he met South African comedian Khanyisa Bhunu who will also perform at the Swaziland and Lesotho gigs.

“Khanyisa Bhunu is a comedian and an actress of SABC 1’s City Ses’topla. We met in Johannesburg and exchanged contacts. She later called me to ask me to collaborate with her in bringing her comedy company, HLEKA MZANSI to Lesotho,” he said.
