A 25-year-old man, Tankiso Lesenyeho, suspected of killing a 71-year-old woman in cold blood, appeared in court on September 30 and was sentenced to two years imprisonment for the possession of illegal firearm.
He will remain in custody waiting to reappear in court for the murder charges on a date to be set.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Clifford Molefe said the woman was collecting firewood in Kolo in Mafeteng at about 4 pm when the suspect allegedly beat her to death before chopping off her legs with an axe.
“The 71-year-old granny was attacked on September 29 on suspicion that she was bewitching the suspect. When arrested, the suspect was in possession of an illegal 9mm gun and 10 rounds of ammunition,” Superintendent Molefe said.
