Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Football Club on Tuesday received soccer equipment worth M59 565 from insurance giant, Metropolitan Lesotho.
The equipment includes a set of nets, 33 pairs of boots, playing kit, 10 poles, four comer-flags, step-ladder, goalkeepers’ gloves, 17 balls, First Aid kit and training bibs.
In his keynote address at the handover ceremony held at Police Headquarters, club vice-president, Thato Mokoteli, said the kit was part of a three-year sponsorship deal LMPS signed last year with Metropolitan.
“We signed a three-year sponsorship with Metropolitan last year and this equipment is part of that agreement, of which we are grateful.
“Our team is very motivated this season after the 2-0 win against Bantu in our opening match of the campaign although we drew with Likhopo in the next fixture and lost against Lioli last weekend.
“The players are in good shape and I believe this equipment will also motivate them and boost their morale, while making it easy for the coaches during training,” Mokoteli said.
“This season, we are gunning for glory. Gone are the days when we used to be the whipping boys in our league.”
Mokoteli further revealed LMPS would need at least M20 000 more for the transport of their coach and civilian players.
“We need to provide them with transport to matches and training so we plead with Metropolitan to give us a helping hand in that regard,” said Mokoteli.
On his part, Metropolitan Lesotho Managing Director, Nkau Matete, said the sponsorship was a continuation of “a long-lasting friendship” between the police and his company.
“I firstly would like to thank LMPS, as an institution, for the support they have been giving our company. This sponsorship is just a continuation of the good and long friendship we have with the police,” Matete said.
“The more you buy our insurance policies, the more we will be giving back to you and I think we must look for a way to improve the cooperation between our two entities.”
LMPS Acting Commissioner, Keketso Monaheng, thanked Metropolitan for the sponsorship, and the police to take out policies with the company.
“We would like to thank Metropolitan for this sponsorship and also for the good relations we have had for a long time.
“I would also like to encourage my colleagues to invest and buy policies with Metropolitan because they are very important for the wellbeing of our families,” Acting Commissioner Monaheng said.
