Kaizer Chiefs skipper stresses the need for discipline for soccer players as ‘Maseribane pledges M75 000 to Bantu

Kaizer Chiefs and South Africa captain Itumeleng Khune was the guest of honour at the gala-dinner hosted by newly-crowned Premier League champions Bantu, at Maseru Sun Hotel last Saturday.
The iconic goalkeeper mixed freely with guests during the colourful event attended by several high-profile personalities, among them Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing, Central Bank of Lesotho Governor, Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane, Members of Parliament (MPs) from Mafeteng district and Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Thesele ‘Maseribane.
In his inspirational speech, Khune, who brought his Chiefs teammates, George Lebese and George Maluleke, to the event, encouraged Bantu players to be disciplined at all times in order to realise their full potential as footballers.
“Talent is a blessing from God, and you guys should always keep these three Ds in your minds — Determination, Dedication and Discipline — as they will take you far in your soccer careers,” Khune said.
Khune further advised the Bantu players to invest their earnings as football is a very short career. He further also said footballers should give back to their communities “just to make a change and put a smile on someone’s face”.
“Football is a business; we are in it to make money. But you have to invest your earnings because this is a very short career, and also try to give back to the communities where you come from because that will give you satisfaction of putting a smile on someone’s face,” said Khune.
Meanwhile, Chief ‘Maseribane pledged M75 000 to Bantu at the event and lavished praise on the club-management for making the team a force to reckon with in domestic football.
“I have since been informed that each player’s playing kit costs at least M3 000 and I decided to give out this amount to cover the attire for 30 players. I would like to thank the Bantu management for the outstanding job you have done with this team; it really shows you are true leaders,” he said.
Chief ‘Maseribane also presented Bantu with a Mylec goalpost set and offered the league champions the free use of Seeiso Leshoboro stadium, until the refurbishment of their own ground is complete.
