MASERU — The Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) yesterday held a ceremony to honour the four best performing students from the country’s tertiary institutions.
The annual event recognises four best students from the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Lerotholi Polytechnic, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and the Centre for Accounting Studies.
Speaking at the event, LNDC chief Executive Officer, Joshua Setipa said the corporation was committed to encouraging excellence and raising skills levels in the country.
“With this initiative, we hope not only to inspire others to recognise hard work but also to encourage those still learning to work harder,” said Setipa.
Setipa said LNDC also seeks to recruit the best performers and the best skills in the country.
“We constantly strive to position ourselves as the employer of choice,” he added.
Handing over brand new state-of-the-art Samsung Galaxy 3 tablet computers, Setipa said he hoped the tablets would help the graduates kick-start their professional careers and also keep them on the pulse of developments in their respective industries and around the world.
The four top graduates were Rapelang Maubelle who qualified as a chartered accountant from the Centre of Accounting Studies, Refiloe Matela, best performing student from Lerotholi Polytechnic who graduated in Architectural Technology; Mohau Seoela, a top student from NUL who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics while Matšepo Matlama graduated with an Honours Degree in Business Entrepreneurship from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
On behalf of the graduates, Mohau Seoela thanked LNDC for the tablets, promising to put them to good use.
“We are very grateful to LNDC and Mr Setipa and we promise to continue to work hard because the onus is on us the youth to turn around Lesotho’s economy,” Seoela Said.
At the same occasion CAS registrar Motlatsi Nts’ala expressed gratitude to LNDC for the continued support it gives learners in the country.
He also urged the graduates to seize the opportunities afforded to them and to plough the skills and expertise they had acquired back to their communities and their country. Meanwhile, Setipa said LNDC would soon be introducing entrepreneur advisory services aimed at guiding new entrepreneurs in putting their ideas into proper, feasible business models.
