MASERU — A local magazine, Finite Magazine, will next Saturday host a function at Lehakoe Club to honour women for their role in the development of Lesotho.
The Women Appreciation Awards are being organised by Bam Group of Companies, the publishers of the magazine.
“Since Finite covers different aspects of women and was founded by Basotho women of character, we decided to give out these awards as a way of showing men that women play a very crucial role in life,” ’Malisema Mahloane, Bam Promotions managing director, said on Tuesday.
“Women should be appreciated for the role they play in the country. In the past women were not taken seriously but today we can argue that they have made their mark.”
She added that 15 women had been nominated for the awards for their role in making a positive influence in the development of the country.
“We used an “sms” voting method in order to select these finalists (three in each category),” she said.
Mahloane also said that although there is going to be one winner in each category, there will be consolation prizes for others and gifts for attendants.
“The ceremony is primarily intended to encourage women to exert all their efforts in everything they do. They must first be the change they want to see and most of all outsmart men.”
Jennifer Crow, the founder of Victory Church in Lesotho originally from USA, will be the guest speaker.
South African socialite Khanyi Mbau will also be talking to the women about the challenges she faced in her life.
Gold digger, chancer, Queen of Bling — Khanyi Mbau has been called all of that and more.
While her flamboyant and daring personality have made her a sought-after guest at parties, her flashy lifestyle and relationships with older (and often married) men have made her one of South Africa’s most talked about woman.
Late last year she published a book titled Bitch, Please! I’m Khanyi Mbau. It talks about her abusive relationship with Mandla Mthembu who fathered her only child Cannes and left her destitute.
Also included is her sordid affair with married businessman Theunis Crous. The book is all about the hard lessons she had to learn during her flashy lifestyle and things she will never repeat.
Khanyi is now signed under Kalawa Jazmee Records as a performing artist and is currently co-starring in a reality television show Reality Check (with Babalwa Mneno and Nonhle Thema) which airs on etv on Saturdays.
“We decided to go for Khanyi Mbau because we believe she will be an inspiration to quite a number of women. Like every woman, we all dream of being married to a rich man when growing up, which is what happened to her.
“She had to learn that money is not love the hard way, and that everything comes at a price.
“We are definite that Khanyi’s new reformed image will inspire thousands and her past will be a lesson to our youth whom we are expecting there,” Mahloane said.
She said there will be a “Twin-talk” by Tšepang Mosena and Nts’epeng Tšita — twins who co-founded Bam Group of Companies — telling women how they actually made it.
There will be lots of entertainment provided by local all-stars like Spido, Febric, Tsedi, Damario, the list is endless.
