MASERU — Local business tycoon, Sam Matekane has added a CV 200 jet to his growing number of planes.
The aircraft, which carries 50 passengers, arrived at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport on Tuesday.
Matekane also has three other aircraft including a seven-seat twin-engine Euro Copter 135 and an eight-seat twin-engine Hawker 700A jet that he bought in 2009.
He said his latest acquisition will ferry passengers from the Moshoeshoe I International Airport to OR Tambo in Johannesburg.
The jet will also be chattered to take passengers from OR Tambo to Lusaka, Zambia, starting from April 25.
It will also fly to Durban and Cape Town.
“We also plan that soon we will be flying to the three South African cities of Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town,” Matekane added.
On weekends the jet will be chattered for local trips in Zambia.
Matekane said currently he does not have Basotho pilots among his employees because there are no skills in this field in the country.
He however said he has sent some Basotho students to train as pilots outside the country.
“Matekane Group of Companies has offered scholarships to six Basotho who will be flying these aircrafts when they finish their studies,” he added.
